The Pont et Essieux factory ensures that all the components required for production are present and then makes them available to the assembly line.
At the Pont Essieux factory in Saint Priest, the storage capacity is 4500 cells.
Before 2016, the inventories were done by the employees of the plant manually with binoculars. It is important to specify that the inventories are long and painful tasks for the employees (solicitation of the cervicals and accumulate on the human acuity). Volvo Trucks wanted to modernize its inventory process with a more efficient and practical solution. This is how the project for a drone inventory solution emerged
The plant reduced its inventory time by 6, going from 115 seconds per bin with the manual inventory to 26 seconds with the EyeSee solution.
To inventory the whole stock, i.e. 4500 trays in 1 month, 143 man-hours were necessary (i.e. 1 full time person). Now, thanks to EyeSee, the factory inventories its entire stock in 33 hours.
The time saved has allowed the staff to focus on other tasks with higher added value: identifying the causes of inventory errors and consequently implementing the appropriate corrective actions.

As a result, the plant has increased operationnal efficiency, reduced costs and improved customer satisfaction. Following the good results, the Volvo Trucks Group is considering extending the solution to other sites in Europe.
